Born in Jerusalem in 1964, Miri Golan studied educational science and discovered the pedagogic potential of paper folding during a study visit in Japan. Back in Israel she founded the Israeli Origami Center and introduced Origami as a regular subject. Today Miri Golan successfully teaches chilren at more than 40 Israeli schools and uses the art of paper folding to increase their performance and develop their personality. Therefore she is considered to be a true master not only among origami teachers.
One Thousand Cranes
This sculpture is made out of one thousand golden cranes folded by students of the Israeli origami teacher Miri Golan.The folding of one thousand cranes is considered a miraculous rite in Japan, promising the healing of severe illnesses. According to an old Japanese legend, the crane reaches an age of one thousand years.
