It was one of the biggest exhibitions ever in the two-millennia history of the art of folding paper. More than 73,800 visitors were enchanted by the "Masters of Origami" exhibition between July 8 and September 30. They were able to see more than 200 artworks by 66 Origami masters from 16 nations who let themselves be inspired by the hosts at Hangar 7 - The Flying Bulls - and their world of flying.
The exhibition was complemented by three special sections and four workshops as well as a book with the title "The Art of Paperfolding". The entire proceeds of € 30,000 to date will be donated to the "Wings for Life", a private foundation dedicated to the cause of finding a cure for paraplegia. "The Art of Paperfolding" is still available at the Hangar-7.
The "Masters of Origami" exhibition culminated in the commemoration of the greatest Origami masters of all time, Akira Yoshizawa. The Japanese artist had passed away on March 14, 2005 at the age of 94. His widow Kiyo Yoshizawa spoke in Salzburg about "the advent of a new era" for the art of folding paper and its great tradition: "Never before had Origami been presented in a more magnificent setting than here."
